Ross Brawn is God

That was quite some debut, wasn't it?

Uh, yeah. Wherever Brawn goes, so does success? We'll see how the season progresses.

I'm particularly pleased for Reubens Barichello, who probably mentally went from hanging up his helmet to seeing a spark of hope about winning an F1 championship in a matter of weeks. This, as his age is intersecting with his desirability as a driver.

Pleased, too, for the former BAR-Honda team, who went from being perhaps the #3 F1 team in about 2006 to nobodies for the past two seasons. It's amazing how precipitously competitive speed can vanish from a team like that.

Jenson Button? Let's see if he actually has the chops to stay in front when he's in the fastest car.

Props, too to Jarno Trulli, who reminds us that he's still got Mad Skills by starting from Pit Road and finishing on the podium. After all these years of driving the absolute junk that Toyota has been providing him, he might have some fun in the twilight of his F1 career.

Richard Branson, you cheeky, lucky bastard. I'd love to know how that whole business went down. Was it actually Branson himself who toted the Virgin decals under his arm to the garage? Will the decals get bigger at Sepang, or will there suddenly spout a lot more logos?

By the way, at the first practice, I wasn't crazy about the Brawn GP paint scheme. Now I hope they never change it.
