Codemasters DIRT Demo

I downloaded this demo a couple of years ago, but was unable to run the game at more than a few frames per second on my sim-racing PC. I thought of it yesterday, and installed it on my Mac Pro (booting in Windows XP for sim-racing). Here is a lap (the two different clips are "TV" coverage and in-car of the same lap) of the asphalt super-stage in the demo.

I am convinced to buy the game now. This is the best-feeling simulation of a four-wheel-drive vehicle I've experienced. Years ago, I played a number of versions of UK game publisher Codemasters' "Colin McRae Rally" - all PC "ports" of console games. Early "Colin McRae" titles only modeled a single front and single rear tire model, and the console-game legacy was evidenced by somewhat less-than-involved driver control. My rally sim of choice for the past several years has been "Richard Burns Rally" - a huge improvement. Having driven this asphalt stage in "DIRT," though, is a revelation. The sense of changing grip and power transfer from the four corners is dinstictively different from other sim titles. If this lap looks violent and super-quick, it absolutely felt that way to drive.

I'm now encouraged to take a second look at Codemasters other current racing titles - their old road-racing titles were unimpressive. If their current road-racing titles share some of DIRT's code base, I'm in.
