In this New York Times article, Like Water for Money, contributor Steven Strogatz writes about the Phillips Machine, built by New Zealander Bill Phillips in 1949 to attempt to model economic systems.

Nice find, Ells, and a nicely written piece. FWIW, my masters thesis depended quite heavily on papers written by Steven Strogatz and his Ph.D. student Duncan Watts. Coupla Cornell guys, just coincidentally...
